The Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan (DSAWM) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to be a resource and advocacy organization, promoting public awareness and supporting lifelong opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

We are a group of parents who have children with Down syndrome.  We have banded together to share knowledge with other families, and help and support new parents.  We also find it necessary to better educate ourselves, educational and medical professionals, and the public about Down syndrome, and to constantly remind everyone of all the things our children can do!

Michael Johnson is a self-taught artist who just happens to have Down syndrome. When Michael’s mother approached the DSAWM about his desire to enter ArtPrize 2010, we knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!  We are incredibly honored to be a part of Michael’s dream, and we can’t wait for the world to see his amazing talent.
