Thursday, March 26
Arts in Motion Studio, Artists Creating Together, Disability Advocates of Kent County, DSAWM, and Hearts for the Arts have come together to create #ThisAbilityGR Week. This week-long celebration and showcase is part of an effort to raise awareness in the greater community of the talents of individuals with disabilities who reside in Grand Rapids and the resources provided by our organizations. All events throughout the week are free and open to the public.
March 21: Rock Your Socks Dance
March 26: Cooking Capers
DSAWM invites you to drop in to the DSAWM office to learn more about the services we provide over 300 families across West Michigan. We’ll then travel up to the Masonic Center’s 3rd floor kitchen where you will have the opportunity to learn more about our Cooking Capers program and help prepare a dish! Teens and adults with Down syndrome who participate in Cooking Capers learn culinary terminology, cooking methods, measurements, and kitchen safety while crafting a healthy meal. The program is one of our most popular with over 30 members participating each season. Demand has grown so much that to accommodate we opened two new sessions in the past year. Three sessions now serve members in both Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
