Grand Rapids Public Museum
Join us for the 2019 Member Holiday Party! This year we will be gathering at a new location: the Grand Rapids Public Museum! Members will have the opportunity to explore the museum, ride the Spillman Carousel, and view a holiday-themed planetarium showing all free of charge! Sweets (with a gluten-free option) will also be provided and Santa Claus will fly down from the North Pole to take photos and hear all of your holiday wishes. This is a member only event open exclusively to DSAWM members and their families.
RSVP and volunteer details coming soon.
Covered parking is available in a ramp located off Front Street, just south of the museum’s main entrance for a $10 max fee. Handicap parking is available under the museum’s overhang, with additional handicap parking in the ramp. Free parking is also available nearby in the Eberhard and DeVos lots at Grand Valley State University. Additional parking is available through the City of Grand Rapids parking garages and lots.
Navigating the Museum
Museum maps will be available at registration. Members will have free access to the museum’s main exhibits. Additional Member Holiday Party activities are located:
Spillman Carousel: Cook Carousel Pavilion
Photos with Santa (3-5pm): Barrel Factory
Private planetarium show: Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium
Treats & Mingling: Overlook Room
The museum will be open to the public during the party, however only DSAWM members and their families will have access to the planetarium show and photos with Santa. GRPM is accessible for all visitors with ramps at the museum’s entrance and elevators to all floors. Sensory tool kits, equipped with noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards, and weighted lap pads, are also available to check out from the front desk for visitors of all ages. The museum also has a Quiet Room for anyone who needs a private area to be away from crowds. This family friendly, low sensory space is a great resource for breastfeeding mothers, individuals or families with special sensory needs, those in need of an adult changing area and more. During your visit, ask any GRPM staff member if you need to use the Quiet Room.
