Mission
Statement
The mission of the Down Syndrome Association of West
Michigan is to provide support, resources and advocacy with the aim of
increasing awareness and opportunities for individuals with Down
syndrome, their families and caregivers. The five goals the
mission are:

To
provide support and encouragement to individuals with Down
syndrome and their families through emotional support and by providing opportunities for all individuals and
families to reach their highest potential and quality of
life.

To establish networks
for the receiving, processing, storing, and disseminating all available
information relevant to Down syndrome with the goal
of making this information readily available to individuals with
Down syndrome, their families, members of the DSAWM, medical professionals, legislators, school
administrators, and anyone
else with the desire or directive to carry out activities directed
at improving the quality of life for individuals with Down
syndrome.

To advocate for
individuals with Down syndrome and their families in the area of
legislation and all other areas pertaining to opportunities for
fulfillment and attainment of the highest quality of life.

To
generate public awareness of individuals with Down syndrome and their
special needs and abilities, as well as the needs of families and
caregivers for whom Down syndrome is a part of their everyday
existence.

To
provide unique social opportunities for individuals with Down
syndrome, their families and caregivers to come together and enjoy
the best that life has to offer.
