Fundraisers

The Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan significantly relies on the contributions of individuals, corporations, foundations and fundraising events to support the work of our organization. Proceeds from fundraisers allow the association to serve as a resource and advocacy organization, promoting public awareness and supporting the lifelong opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.  This work is done through educational workshop, conferences, peer- and professionally-led support services, community-wide education and public awareness, and on-going access to the most current Down syndrome information and resources available. Your participation in these fundraisers allow us to provide these programs services at little or no cost.

We are very grateful for your continued support of the organization.

Step UP for Down Syndrome

We are excited to announce that we are taking a step in a new direction this year and inviting our Buddy Walk supporters to Step UP for Down Syndrome!  This walk, similar to the Buddy Walk in concept and format, will take place at Millennium Park in Grand Rapids on Saturday, October 8, 2011.

The change in name allows for a more immediate call to action and recognizes that the purpose of our event is to celebrate, support and advocate for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. There are nearly 300 similar walks hosted by Down syndrome organizations worldwide.

Please help us spread the word and grow support for this fantastic event! If you know a business or individual who would like to be a sponsor for this year’s Step UP for Down Syndrome Walk, please contact Melissa Tourtelotte, Executive Director at director@dsawm.org.

Down Syndrome Achievement Fund

The Down Syndrome Achievement Fund was established in 2003 as an endowment fund to provide a permanent source of principal so funds would be available in the future for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.  The Achievement Fund is critical in helping the Association provide its programs and services in our West Michigan community.

Corner Bar Open

The Corner Bar Open (CBO) is a golf event like none other.  The atmosphere is full of food, music and a friendly competitive spirt.  There are two flights - morning and afternoon - so there is a time that fits everyone's schedule and pace of play. While we can't guarantee who will win, we can guarantee that everyone will have a great time!

Corner Bar Co-owners Jeff Wolfe and Andy Tidey have been hosting this event for the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan since it began in 2005.  Through the years the CBO has raised $95,000 to support education, resources and advocacy work of the Association.
