8:30-9:00am - Registration and Continental Breakfast

9:00-9:45am - Welcome and Key-note Speaker

9:45-11:00am - Session #1

11:00-11:15am - Break

11:15am-12:30pm - Session #2

12:30-12:45pm - Conclusion

Keynote Speaker - Ronny Kemink, Grand Haven, MI - Self advocate

Conference Attendees will be able to attend 2 of the 3 concurrent sessions

Child care services will be provided from 8am to 1pm free of charge at Easter Seals, 4065 Saladin Drive, Rapids, MI. Please bring a sack lunch for your children. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Registration: There is no cost to attend the conference for members of the Association and educational professionals. The cost for all others is $15.00. Please register by calling 616-956-3488 or e-mail DSAWM@iserv.net with your name and the number at-tending the conference (and daycare) by September 7, 2002.

 

Concurrent Sessions 

Sexuality and the Disabled Child - Presented by Mike Huene,Special Education Teacher, Caledonia Public Schools

• Overview of Self Awareness and Safety Concerns

• What is Appropriate Behavior for the Disabled Child

• How Formalized Sex Education Is and Should be Different for the Special Needs Student

• How to Advocate for Appropriate Sex Education in your School District.

Positive Behavior Support - Presented by Jessie Morton, Parent Coalition Program Coordinator, The Parent Coalition

• Teaches Positive Behavior Support as a team-centered approach between parents and school personnel

• Assists parents in teaching and developing acceptable replacement behaviors for the child or young adult.

Sensory Integration - Presented by Al Hansberry, OTR, MOT L, Thresholds

• Overview of the developmental sequencing of the sensory sys-tem

• Conversational awareness of the cause/effect relationship of the different cognitive senses

• Provide you with the ability to see some of the interruptions in a child’s sensory life that may cause behaviors that are different from many other children.
